It it possible to use the 1.6 head gasket on the 1.5? The 1.6 has a 3mm larger bore.
-
Why would you want to use a 1.6L Head Gasket on a 1.5L?
-
Because I already have one...with the right number of holes/noches.
-
I think where the 1.5 has a smaller bore, the gasket for the 1.6 would be too big and wouldn't seal properly.
-
i think that the bore is the same on the 1.5 and 1.6, its the stroke that is different, if i remember corectly the bore for both of them is right around 3.01 inches and the stroke for the the 1.5 is right around 3.25 inches while the 1.6 is right around 3.45 inches
so if this is correct then the only difference that you would have is if the head is a mechanical or hydrallic, and i think that there is a difference that you can add a sleave onto the block or something
Go to vwdieselparts.com and look for an article about this i think that jack sells something for this
hope this helps

Yes, there is an article but I believe its for using a 1.5L Head on a 1.6L block. Its an oil reducer sleeve that reduces the return passage for oil on the 1.6 block to fit the 1.5 head.
-
Yeah, I joined the forum but couldn't find the article.
-
so that reduced oil hole should be the only difference between a 1.5 and 1.6 gasket, unless they made them all with big holes for simplicity reasons
i would say use the gasket
-
The coolant passages I think are different between the 1.5 and 1.6 gaskets, with the 1.5 gaskets being generally more "open" and probably not directing coolant through the head in the same way that the 1.6 gasket would.
Another area that may be differenet is the thickness of the gaskets, but I can't check that out right now.
-
Thanks, Guys.
No problems with the thickness. It's 1.6mm.
