Title: 1.9 tD into a Vanagon
Post by: dokarex on March 03, 2008, 06:36:03 pm
Hi
Finally found a 1.9TD to replace my 1.6NA in my Doka.
Couple of Questions
1) have to switch oil pans: should I order the 1.9 one or the 1.6 gasket

2) can I run the alt and water pump off the same belt and be rid of the serpentine belt? (no ps or ac) Just switch the pulleys from on engine to the other??

you need a Vanagon oil pump and pan, the motor lays over so far that a regular oil pump wont work.

you also need the to consider the turbo arrangement, manifold selection, drain lines, injector pump clearance, exhaust mods intake route with filter and intercooler, and on and on..

So I have to:

Switch pulleys from 1.6 to 1.9 to drive alt and water pump

Switch oil pan and oil pump

New drain line from turbo to oil pan

Switch pressure plate

Make exhaust and air intake/filter fit

Match up wiring

Can I switch the oil pick up tube or do I have to switch the whole oil pump?
