Additives can increase the cetane number (How easily it ignites and how smoothly it burns) but the fuel only contains X amount of energy per unit injected. The only way to extract more power from the same amount of fuel is to increase the engine's thermal efficiency.

Ceramic coatings, airflow, air swirl, combustion temperature, coolant temperature, etc.

as far as i understand, additives allow you to make the ignition more early, so if you set your pump timing more early you also have more power.

or am i wrong, dont know it so good, dont have experience with it at all.

i know that i use the power service diesel additive, and without it, the car feels like a powerless turd... it might just be a mind over matter thing tho...
