Got my injectors back. the guy said one of them slowly looses pressure back to the retirn. I took it apart to look at and see he has removed shims so that now only the smaller diameter spring works on the nozzle. This is a 2 spring TDI injector BTW. What is going to be the effect of what this MORON did? Just noisier?
-
BTW, I will post that the shop is Denver Diesel Injection Service. To be avoided as the guy obviously doesn't have a clue. The shop is pretty dirty as well, including his workbench.
-
Taking all the injectors apart to check them, he apparently only removed the "extra" shim on one of them. I could tell the ones he did and didn't work on by all the crap between the sealing surfaces. I'm surprised they didn't all leak!
-
My understanding is that there needs to be a shim at each spring... it's a hardened surface that the spring rubs against. Otherwise the spring rubs against the body of the injector, which is not hardened.

How do you intend to rectify the situation with this shop?
-
I don't. With the 100 mile round trip each time out, and 3 trips already, I'm done. Maybe I'll see if he can mail it to me, if he even knows where it is.
-
He did mail it back. Said he took it out because the pressure was too high, so I will have to figure out how much to take off of it.
-
Yeah, not only do the shims provide a surface for the spring to rest on, they are used to increase preasure by adding them or decrease by removing them. If the injectors have some age on them , they will usually need a few thousandths shim. I have built many injectors and have never had to remove shims from old injectors. The guy sounds like a joke. You should send them to Diesel Pro Inc. in PA. The guy there knows his stuff including TDI's(he swapped one into his son's rabbit PU).

send them to Giles
