Title: Mid-sized diesel 4x4: Would you buy this Mahindra?

Check it out.

There are also rumors that the truck will be assembled in Ohio. I think that's great news. Maybe not a ton of jobs, but jobs nonetheless.

It's ugly as sin, but unless Toyota, Nissan, Mitsubishi or (gasp!) the Big Three get off their asses and figure out that this is exactly what Americans want, I might just have to consider an Indian 4x4 pickup that actually gets good mileage (28-35 MPG they claim). I've driven the Mitsubishi L200 turbo diesel, the Nissan Patrol turbo diesel, and the Toyota Hilux 2.4 & 2.7 turbo diesels in Guatemala, and they all rip ass: even in 2-3 feet of thick gooey jungle mud. Why can't they import those to the US?

Toyota is only planning on making a full-sized Tundra V-8 diesel. Just what we needed: another redneck soot-shooter that only gets 16-21 MPG. Nissan has similar plans for their full-sized Titan, and Mitsubishi has no plans to import anything.

I really hope this Mahindra thing goes over, and goes over well. Maybe the tards at Toyota and Mitsubishi will take a hint, and make their mid-sized 4x4 truck US Market-ready.

Doesn't look bad. Or you could wait and get a Tata, as they bought Land Rover. I can now tell people I like Tata's, and that I have several different ones I can play with.

I'd wait until they have proven themselves. I'd love a hybrid depending on the setup they use of course

I like the one in the second link a lot better

Paint the grille on the first one the same as the second one and it would look a lot different.
Why a hybrid?  Extra cost, and shouldn't they be able to meet those mileage specs with a standard diesel and 6 speed trans.  No hybrid means less weight, complexity and reduced expense for guys like me who would never buy one new but might buy one once it starts needing repairs out of warranty.

I'd rather not have a hybrid, and I'd also like a real manual transmission, but otherwise it's not bad.

Yeah, why have an automatic if you are going for economy?

I'd want the hybrid because I would build my own solar/wind setup to provide green power for the vehicle and would only use the diesel engine once the electecity runs out.

Free fuel (relative of course) is the way to go IMO
