Title: Star wheel - how far?
Post by: MontanaGTD on February 27, 2008, 06:54:22 am
Ok finally getting round to doing the star wheel mod - I know to turn it clockwise to adjust it, but i'm not sure how far I need to turn it??

The other thing is i've lengthened the pipe before which leads from the turbo to the wastegate actuator in preporation for putting a boost controller into - What is a "Safe" maximum boost limit for a 1.6 SB with intercooler to run? Its got a performance filter and a full exhaust system, i've adjusted the plunger pin and turned up the fuel, i've also blocked the BOV in preparation too. The boost at the moment tops out at just above 0.5BAR. And hardly any smoke!

Hi,

1,0 bar is realy no problem, with your intercooler  1,2 bar should be also reliable. Stock is 0,8 bar, so if you only have 0,5 bar, you are under stock boost level. If you wand to run with more than 1,0 bar, and get mor hp from the higher boost level, you also need a custom boost pin for you fuel pump, or live with very high amount of smoke, because otherwise you have to adjuste idle fuel amount to big, to get enough fuel at maxium boost.

best regards
Clemens

I think it is a trial and error thing to adjust the starwheel. My pump doesn't have one, but as boost goes up, the pin allows max fuel sooner, so you adjust it up to give the spring more tension to correlate with the increased boost.

Hi,

don't understand the star wheel question right before.

I think good deal is to adjuste the starwheel so, that you have approx 2-3 mm pre stress.

So just turn it a bit at a time and turn it back once it starts to smoke badly?

i turned mine all the way down
then (since i got a ton of extra pump parts)i experimented with a propane torch to weaken the spring a little
seriously, you will notice a difference with 3/4 -1.5 turn, that ll be enough , but its not like you will blow it up if you turn it in too far,so try it for fun

for real fun some time, just remove the spring all together (and place it on top  instead  and do this)
