Title: Crank bolt torque

Since my engine started out as an AAZ, that's what manual I have for it. I put a TDI crank sprocket and bolt in it, but what si the torque for the TDI bolt, 66 + 1/4 turn or something different?

Well on TDI Club I found Crank shaft bolt: 88 + 90 degrees for an ALH. I assume it is the same for an AHU?

i would think that if you're using a new bolt [of course] then the 66 + 1/4 should be fine. i'm sure applying a higher torque on a stretch bolt would
only comprimise it's holding power. just but some green loctite also.

AAZ and 1Z/AHU It's the same.

ALH have a much bigger bolt, and bigger face end crank, If you torque like ALH bolt, I think that the bolt will break.

Hmm, I put it on last night and tightened to 88 + 1/4. It didn't feel like it was getting softer, so now I'm torn between replacing it or not.

of course before the problem with the AAZ's started showing up the old crazy chinese mechanic i worked with for 20 years used to re&re them with the gun. never had a failure [ as far as we know].

i replaced my bolt on my ahu on my rebuild
if i remember correctly,it was cheap,like 2 or 3 bucks
i bought an extra to keep in stock,and i paid less than 10$ us at a vw dealer for both bolts!!!
id have to check the spec,but i "think" that the 66+1/4 turn sounds right
i made a scribe mark across the bolt after it was torqued
glad i did cause once i was playing around,and i left a wrench on the crank bolt,and started the engine!!!

i was glad i had a scribe mark,cause i could eyeball if the bolt came loose which it didnt ,yay

Holy crap did I have to do a lot of searching to find a place online that sells the bolt. I don't think I'd be able to sleep at night without replacing it. It just seems odd that the dealer doesn't stock it. Then again they have had to order every part I've bought with the exception of crappy plastic bits for the wife's Beetle.

Don't worry about it. I wasn't expecting them to have it. I got mine from Grease Works (http://www.greaseworks.org/store/product_info.php?cPath=24_66&products_id=429&osCsid=643a9115e840f0ee3873bf7ec20a37c2) for $2.50, though with shipping it was almost $10. But that's the same or less than I'd use in gas driving down to pick it up, especially if I had to drive down to pay first, which they have made me do before.
