Post by: 91MF on February 20, 2008, 01:16:42 pm
so before i start modding my stock 1.6td i was wondering what the 'safe zone' is without intercooling? im on a tight budget but i can't help myself. -must modify- lolz

or

is intercooling a must? i have a couple intercoolers[1.8t and 2.0t] laying around but i dunno if i wanna start laying pipe[lol] around the engine compartment just yet.

The first, best mod is a 2.5" exhast system, turbo to rear bumper. Followed by an EGT probe in the exhaste manifold right below the turbo.

I'm running 25 PSI with no intercooler, my EGTs stay below 1300.  Been running it this way for a few years and everthing is OK.  Crushed a bearing in the tranny once, but other than that, no problem.

An intercooler is nice, I have intercoolers and intend to do that too, but its not a drop dead or do it thing.

yea i've got exhaust planned for spring and an EGT and boost gauge for monitoring. i wasnt even planning on running much more than 20psi anyway.

do you have a giles super or have you just modified your pump?[fuel screw, etc..]
