Hi all,
I'm about to start the rebuild of my AHU and I think I read somewhere that the 81mm pistons from the 2.5L Transported can be used to make a 1.97L TDI.
Can anyone confirm or deny this please? If so can I still use the AHU rods and pins? What about piston strength compared to the AHU?
Boring is only going to cost me $120, compared to $60 for a hone so if its physically possible its going to be cheap enough to do.
Would the extra two cans of coke of displacement make much difference?
Thanks, Mikki x :)

I read someone used the 2.5 pistons in a 1.9 on TDI Club. Might do a search there.

Mm there is a thread on there about it but in the usual TDIclub fashion it just ended up with people trying to sell new stuff, or suggesting the OP use a PD engine instead :(
I'm kinda hoping that someone here has actually tried it!

Maybe the thread is gone, but I was fairly sure someone had used them.

i think this guy has done that hears the link m8 http://www.centralvwaudi.com/

Check for posts on here of mine. I just tried to get some Mahle pistons here in the states for that same engine. you can go up to 82mm if you wish. I had part numbers on that thread... The transporter pistons are indeed the way to go but you may have to do a little machining to get them to work. let me know how things turn out and if you have any questions.
