Title: Door Stay Attachment
Post by: somolovitch3 on February 07, 2008, 04:25:56 am
Does anyone know how the body side piece is supposed to be attached to the door piller?

Mine have come loose and are rattling around in there.

Still hooked to the door, but compleatly loose at the piller.

I have seen some that were welded at the surface of the piller, looks like............

Anyway, anyone got a fix for this?

tia!

Mine are suffering from the same symptoms.  I think I may just attempt to weld the inner-tab to the frame.  Or, just leave them to their own slow demise.

I would still like to know where/how the factory attached the dumb things to the A piller.  Welded to it?  They don't attached to the door edge side like I had thought.

Seem to be more "L" shaped. Drill a 1" hole in the jamb from the inteire and plug weld the bracket to the solid portion of the A piller?

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've pulled the carpet back, cut a 2'' square hole out and welded the bracket back in. I will post pics later. I have a junker car that I inspected and cut out the door stay to see exactly what I was dealing with.

ive been there,,,on my old 83 gti like 14 years ago
i had the spot welds that hold that bracket to the body break off ,yea, inside the pillar
i took a 1 inch hole saw, maybe it was 1.5 or 2 inch(come on 14yrs ago) and removed the kick panel carpet, and drilled a hole in the area of the bracket
then i cleaned up the bracket(in the hole as best as i could)so  i  could reweld it to the body.
you could weld a plug back in,or get a rubber grommet or somethin
