Title: oil filter relocation kit. Where to buy?
Post by: haybayian on February 03, 2008, 06:40:17 pm
Hi diesel friends,

I have spent part of this evening trying to find a source for an Oil filter relocation kit for my 1993 Jetta TD engine with no luck. Lots of parts for gassers, or north american diesels, but nothing for me.

Do you have any suggestions?

Thanks.

Would something like this work? (http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/Product/tf-Browse/s-10101/Pr-p_Product.CATENTRY_ID:2011707/p-2011707/N-111+10201+600002024/c-10101)

Or even be any good?

I talked to JC Whitney yesterday and their desk person told me that these kits should not be used with diesel. Perma-Cool 106 95 (tel: 1 909 390 1550) on the other hand should do.

The PH8A filter is a Ford filter, same threads as a VW filter BTW. Perma-Cool 10695 looks exactly like what I have on. I also had my local auto parts store get it for me. You should be able to get one almost anywhere though you may have to ask them.

Only problem I had was one of my hoses I had made up with hydraulic ends started leaking at the swivel joint. Shouldn't be a Diesel problem as the fittings should hold 3000+psi

I was told by JC Whitney desk guy that the aluminum alloy is what the manufacturer does not trust. Personally I don't have a clue.

The only ones I've EVER seen are aluminum. I've had mine for a few years.

:D  OK guys....I have  indeed myself  run various aluminum items with my Volvo   and my Detroit diesel engines  for years and I am not aware of a diesel aluminum incompatibility. So ....!!!!I may have been given a bit of BS from the JC Whitney salesman.  It happens.

However...This being said, I have read  here and there  on the Net that some of these filter relocation kits are not diesel compatible. The following Summit link is one

http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=TRD%2D1122&N=700+400158+301916+115&autoview=sku

As for the why? go figure.

Could it be that they do not want you to use it for diesel fuel?  I could see why because the filters are not made for diesel.  A lot of diesels have the same type of filter assembly but use diesel fuel filters. They don't want you running diesel fuel through it not engine oil.
