Title: "Agressive" Clutch disc?
Post by: jackbombay on April 01, 2005, 10:02:29 pm
Anyone using a ceramic or feramic clutch disc? How is it?

I have my car apart and will more than likley be upping the power output of the motor and don't want any clutch issues down the road, but dont want a lightswitch clutch either (on or off).

This is for an Audi 2.0 TD.

If you don't feel like a stock clutch is up to the task (although usually it is), then try spec clutches @ http://www.speclutches.com/ and then when you're ready to buy a clutch go to  http://www.paautoracing.com/cd/. I use a spec stage 2 in my GTI which is still holding with 200whp. The only downside I might say is that I the pressure plate was single strapped, but I fixed that and it shouldn't even apply to you anyways. The stage 2 is kevlar faced and they offer higher clamping force pressure plates to match. All that said, I find it unlikely that your TD would be able to overpower a 240mm 5ktq clutch.  :D

That is not a challenge, it can be done.

I'm using kevlar, and love it.

If the stock clutches are good for a decent power increase I will go with a astock clutch. I am just a little worried seeing how A4 TDI clutches slip so easily. Seemed easy enough to get a disc relined and avoid a potentiall issue down the road. I'll add some power I am sure, but definatley not pushing the edge so to speak.

The quantum has a 230 mm clutch, after reading that thread it appears that I have no worries WRT to clutch slip, thanks.

You should be able to upgrade to the 240mm clutch with just a different flywheel.  :D

FWIW, I run a Kennedy 6-puck copper ceramic clutch in my FSP rabbit (gasser) along with a 16V pressure plate.  Supposedly although the six puck is still solid center, it's somewhat less harsh than the four puck units.

Definitely an upgrade, but when I first got it, the clutch was as "digital" as you can imagine (all on / all off).  It was a pain on the street.

After a few events and some...*ahem* use, the clutch bedded in fine and now it's great.  After three seasons, it's got very little wear and I never have to worry about the clutch.
