Could someone tell me what the external signs of a TDI head are versus the IDI's. I am working on a reman 1.9 TD and I would like to make sure that the shop did not sell me an IDI engine with a TDI head. I am aware that this may be a profoundly stupid question, but bear with me I am new to these engines.
Thanks.

The valve cover will have recesses for the cover bolts. The side profile looking down is wavy on a tdi. Also the oil cap looks like a gas cap on the tdi.HAHA i dont know if this helps i dont have any cating no.s

It doesn't have threaded holes for the injectors. Your injector lines won't fit on the injectors.

My hope is that someone here will be familiar with the actual alloy castings; they are bound to bear different numbers and perhaps ports size and locations.
Thanks for trying.

Ports are the same. Just look at my IDI to TDI thread and you will see what a TDI head looks like(of the only kind that would fit on). The upper water hose has the bolts vertically instead of diagonally.

Well crap, I guess I have to fix the links to the pics. Guess it's my host's problems.

Ok, pics are back. Here is what a TDI head would look like.

If yours doesn't look like that, then it isn't one.

Thanks very much Jim,
Yes I can see the shape of the casting (Wavy line). Mine is indeed an IDI.
