couple of questions, first, ive got an oil leak from theoil pan, front of the eng and towards the rear of the car with a new gasket, let the sealant set over night ,and not over torqued ,and after each trip to work the bolts are loose 3 times also ,,,,,,,,,, breath,,,,,, can the inj timing be off a tooth and still run ok ,just not want to start cold ,20 F
-
Timing needs to be spot on.
Are you using a torque wrench?
-
Gasket sealer? Did you use a normal gasket plus sealer, or just some silicone sealer? In theory, you don't need gasket+sealer. The gasket shoudl seal just fine, unless you have some ***ty cork pan gasket, in which case you should just throw it away and start all over with a composite gasket.
If you've just got a silicone gasket, REMOVE IT ASAP. When the silicone squeezes out, it will evenutally fall off into the pan and clog the oil pickup tube screen. This means low oil pressure, which then means blown engine.
If you've used a quality gasket, then there is no need for sealer.
As for timing: Burn's right. Timing should be spot on. If it's spot on and you're having trouble starting, then troubleshoot the glow system per Bentley. If that all checks out, then look to compression.
Good Luck.

the injection pump in my car ran when it was 180 degrees out of time. if i were to guess i'd say you should be able to start it one tooth out. switch to light oil (a lot of us like rotella SB 0w40), make sure your starter/battery/cables are good, test glowplugs, etc.

glow plugs are new ,work as required ,tested with a test light the come on and off by the relay oil is 10 /40 royal purple

Ya i had a little leak once in my pan... changed it and thought i was doing a good thing getting a new gasket...
Leaked more after i changed it, read on here that cork sucks and use composits only and so I put the old gasket on to get to the store and is hasnt leaked since!
I still have the new gasket here in the box
f'in cork

put a cork on it ,felpro always had good luck with them, guess Ill get a GOOD gasket THX
-
Yah i weas trying to install the felpro cork and It wouldnt stop leaking! I used the tightening spek with a torque wrench and everything...
Cleaned out the pan, the matting surface and all
I did'ntse any sealer tho so....
DOES EVERYONE USE GASKET SEALER WHEN INSTALLING NEW CORK?

DOES EVERYONE USE GASKET SEALER WHEN INSTALLING NEW CORK?
Perhaps they do, but I don't think too many folks fool with Felpro cork pan gaskets; they suck. Fiber gaskets nearly never leak, and you can upgrade to the rubber ones.
-
Are any of them re-useable gaskets like the rubber V/C gasket that's re-useable from the 1.9's?
I have pulled few pans and seen gaskets that look like re-use jobbies...
Yes/No?
-
It is on my 1.9. It's actually built into the windage tray.

where to find a rubber ,or the best to seal it , cant find one on the internet or A/Z or ADV ???
