Hello all,
i am new to the forum and was directed here by someone who is helping me in a project i am away to get started, as she has done the same project already.
My name is Richard and i am away to start converting a VW Corrado G60\VR6 (depending on what i get), into a TDI engined machine.
I have had a good read of the various topics of how to go about this.
What i have learned so far:
Donor car to go for is a 1995-1997 Passat 1.9 TDI idealy with the AHU Engine as its more reliable.
I have begun to look inot how i would go about getting a relatively reliable, stable tune of 14-150BHP from this engine. Most of my experience in engines is Petrol (Gas) based, and i have no idea about turbo's but my dad has.
However it seesm to me that the best idea is to go for some larger nozzles, and a chip\ECU tweak. However this seesm to give me about 20bhp more (25 if i get a more racy set up), however would the next step be a larger or more boostable turbo.
I kave looked on KermaTDI but their turbo's seem to be all B5 based, where as i will be using a B4 model passat.
Can anyone help explain what turbos i can put on the AHU engine along with powerplus 520\764 nozzles and an ecu fettle (as its in the UK, i am unsure where a ahu engine ECU can be tweeked as it seems unpopular by the manufacturers as they all like the plug and change newer mk 4 ecu's etc)
Thanks for any advice, shall post ablog, once i get going. :D

I wonder who that "someone" might be. ;)
Well, if it were me, (and I'm doing something similar) I would go with a Mechanical TDI setup instead of swapping over the ECU and other nonsense from the AHU. Lots of advantages to it, and I'm sure there are some disadvantages as well, but it seems it would be easier to get the power you want by using more readily-available turbos and not having your tuning limited by a "black box" with only a specialized person being able to tune it. With a mechanical TDI setup, you can use any number of VW 8-valve gasser turbo manifolds and that opens up a countless number of turbos that will also be much cheaper. A user on here is running a Mechanical TDI with a Mercedes 300D turbo with good results.
On the other hand, Jeff at Rocketchip I believe can adapt the AHU ECU to run a VNT turbo, which means you could use any of the turbos available from KermaTDI or others.
In the end, I guess it's weighing the pro's and con's of your personal setup and finding out which side wins. :)
Good luck.

Call sales at Kerma or email them. I believe this may be one of the best companies I have dealt with. My hammerhead plus with nozzles and tuning is ridicules. They can build anything. He can change the actuator to boost instead of vacuum if you go M-TDI Their turbo guy has his $hit together, Charlie can reprogram your car to your like'in. He has sent me 4 tuning programs all very different, all very fast. We are actually both running the same setups. He runs a little more boost like 32psi and i am running 25 psi. This car is reliable, starts at 30 below (F), get 52 mpg when the girlfriend drives it, and leaves 1.8t in the dust when I drive. No noticeable soot, no detonation at idle. I don't know projected horsepower, but they build them up to 420lbs of torque 6-speed only. Could not be happier with my TDI.

yea me(and joe i think),hello long time no hear lord :)
yea good results,yea
99 mph trap speeds in the 1/4 ,if that can be called good
since the turbo upgrade(from a stock 1.6 garrett turbocharger),my ets have dropped, but speed increased over 3 mph
if i get it hooked it should do 13's
im runnin kerma race 520's with a 84 td pump with a 12mm pump head
and i set the fuel settings on "kill",yet i still get 52 mpg hiway....
even a "mild" M tdi should run hi 14's easy in a mk1 body
