finally got around to rendering the video from an autocross from last summer.
I bought this car back from the guy I sold it to a couple years earlier. With some help from SMOKEYDUB, over the following 48 hours, I put in my special gearing LSD tranny, installed strut braces, a big rear swaybar, a Giles 12mm pump (on loan from SMOKEYDUB) and a few other things.
I finished in time for almost an hour of sleep before heading off to the races.
I had a blast, though it became painfully obvious that after a two year absence, you don't just jump back into it and still be good. :P
I did manage to beat a turbo AWD talon, a Lotus Elise turbo, a rotary powered mgb, and a big block corvette. (not that such a vehicle could ever handle, but it was a slalom course, the first part being a relatively straight drag race, side-by-side)
So, I present the mess resulting from racing on 1 hour of sleep after a 36 hour modfest in a car owned only two days.
Enjoy, and try to ignore my dropping the F-bomb in the 4th run. It's a high-adrenaline environment, and I was wearing steel toe work boots. :D

Hell ya :D
Do you ever see a purple and green mk1 rocco at these events?
-
That some pretty slick driving there, Impressive that you beat a lot of cars that had a better weight to power ratio than the rabbit diesel!! :D Hopefully this year you will have a topless mk1 diesel as some competition.
-
just finished uploading to youtube, now you can see the whole video.
I've seen that mk1 sirocco at the shop it was built in. Very slick car!
Since this race, I used the car as a daily driver and learned how to drive it. With the peloquin, it's a completely different style of driving. I've also since made some changes that almost completely neutralized the handling. I can't wait for spring to give it another shot. it'll be intercooled this time too! har har
it'd be great to have a whole bunch of diesels out to the races, and completely fog the place out! even a stock suspension with good tires can handle great!

thats cool

I never knew that owner but I know the guy that owns it now. He auto-x's it all the time
-
cool! I plan on hitting every race I can this season, so maybe I'll see him!
-
Right on, his name's Anthony, he's a cool guy, I've sold him a few parts
-
Nice! Looks really fast!
What size tires are you running on that? Just curious.
Also looks like the front suspension bottomed out a few times but otherwise that car looked set. :)
Video editing was damn nice too!

thanks!
Old style BFG 215/50R13
I've bottomed it a couple times over big bumps at high speed, but never below 70km/h.
I'm going to make some adjustments before unleashing it this spring to eliminate that.

Awesome! Great driving and great video. That's quite impressive...especially after all the work and no sleep.
what are you running for shocks, struts, and springs?

neuspeed race, bilstein sport, front upper and lower braces, and 16v scirocco rear swaybar.

what a great vid , that looks like sooo much fun !!!!! I hope some time i can finish my m-tdi scirocco so i can whip it around a parking lot!
-
I recommend you do just that! I can't wait for this season to start... even though I haven't started working on my car yet.
Hey! This is my 1000th post!
-
Where/when are you running? I'ld be interested in watching and maybe eventually getting involved myself.
-
typically, i follow the mazda sportscar owner's club MSOC events. They call it PITL, Push it to the Limit series. I haven't seen anything listed yet for their 2008 season though. There's also HADA, and the corvette club, and a couple others. I suppose if there's some interest, I'll post the events I hear of, and which I'll likely attend. (hopefully with some other diesels to help me smoke the competition!)
I just ordered new tires today, and with some suspension adjustments, a turbo-back mandrel bent 3" exhaust, and actually hooking up my intercooler, I should be a tad more competative this year! I've got a grudge against a certain miata. (the one that eliminated me from the competition this video was taken at)
Should be fun this year!
