Title: NEED REAL FAST: Jetta MK2 crossmember
Post by: madmedix on January 18, 2008, 12:42:21 pm
Hi Folks:

The crossmember let go on my 90 Jetta. Thought I had one locally after searching without luck only to find the doorknob pulled a part from a mk3 & tried to convince me it'll fit

This is what I need (item 2 & might as well get #4 too): (http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj313/madmedix/jetta_crossmember.jpg)

This is why:(http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj313/madmedix/IMG_3827.jpg)

I'd really hate to part out this girl because I can't find this part...
Cheers,
Andy

Trust me, I was praying it would, but not this part. Not even close. The engine mount is off by about 2" and on a different angle with respect to the motor. The strain on the rubber would have been nasty even if I used a crowbar to force it to mate up. The end-bolt holes also weren't the same.

The part you are looking for is the lower radiator support. it is specific to the mk2. The other part is the crossmember. You might be able to convert the corrado or B3 Passat's lower radiator support. the Mk3 and b4 parts will not work at all.

You can NOT use a Mk3 crossmember

You can use a corrado crossmember as well as a B3 cross member.

I think I can get some relativly rust free Mk2 parts for about $40 at my local junk yard and then ship it to you But I would want the funds upfront. My wifey's ebay user name is www.joansbearbox.com if you want to see the feedback for confidence.

That looks like the crossmember is bad.The rad supports rust out all the time, but they are readily available and dirt cheap from the dealers ($75).

I just parted out an MKII and it is sitting behind my shop. It's yours for the taking before it goes to the scrap yard.I don't know exactly what shape it is in,but it is not broken. You can have it and the rad support, plus anything else you need off the car.

And go and get it I did. Wonderful shape!  :D
Folks, this gentleman also offered up any other bits I needed off the car before she heads out for her final drive...so I can get my girl past 500k (less than 50k to go...) and keep her alive...gratis. Right after the expense of moving...Much appreciated.

Thanks again,

Andy
