Are they illegal? I'm visiting friends in Vancouver for a few days and would hate to have it pinched by the mounties, and/or get a ticket for it.
Supposed to be sunny tomorrow even 8)

you'll be ok But as a precaution if you do go through a roadblock or have to stop for them, hide it.
I doubt you really wanna have to discuss why you have a radar detector, but from what i believe they cant do anything about them anymore.
-
Cool, thanks.
-
this sounds like a good investment....
Where did you get yours?
-
apparently if your car doesn't have any flat surfaces on it they can't get a radar reading
i wonder if that metal flake paint would 'jam' the signal?
-
so painting metal flake really messes with the signal of the radar?
iS THIS REAL?
Secondly what's the scoop with this no flat spot? I guess were all screwed driving V boxes!

Metal flake paint wouldn't do a thing. IF you had no forward facing flat spots, then the radar wouldn't be reflected back. But you will always have something on any car that is flat enough.

i wonder if i were to get a hold of the special paint they use on the stealth fighters...
but yea the no flat spot would basically be a stealth car. would look something like a delorian though

There was a Mythbusters on this....no matter what they did with the paint/bodywork/covering the car in Aluminum foil nothing would jam the radar

Although I bet if there was a way to defeat it, they wouldn't show it.

Radar detectors are legal in BC while jammers are not. (I don't think they are anywhere)
I wouldn't hide my radar detector if I got pulled over. You can see the light pretty good from the back and I'm pretty sure that their radar gun has a zoom on it. Trying to hide it if they knew it was there would only make you look suspicious.
However, at a roadblock if they see you have a radar detector they will ask you to pull over and then they will check your license and insurance. Just something that I know they have always done.
Making it impossible to read the speed of your car would also make them suspicious. Like when using a jammer, if they are trying to read your speed and get all these weird numbers I think they are going to pull you over regardless of your speed

Of course, they would get in big trouble.
Same thing when you see those tests for getting out of drug tests, they will never show you how to get out of one cleanly.
-
would be nice to just get a jammer... sends out signals in all directions
-
I've been eying up the shielded Radar detector, detector detectors...A decent one seems to go for around ~189-250 in Best Buy in the Puyallup, Wa area at least. I don't have enough sack to buy one and bring it home.
-
Slave2School, don't get caught with one of those around here.....rumour has it they really don't like them, or those that have them.
-
Don't need on in NS, but I'm moving closer to TO this summer :)
-
They are illegal in Ontario
-
Really? ;)

I just bought a Vaneltine One.. http://www.valentine1.com/
SWEET!!!!
I bought the remote display as well, mounted it above the rear view and mounted the remote display on the steeling colum.
That way when you pass me you dont see anything that anounces i have a dector.
For anyone looking to spend over $300.00 on a dector i would pony up a tad more and get the V1.
I have been driving for 23 years and have had SEVERAL dectors, the V1 is by far the best one I have ever owned. It's undectectable as well

Nice Zuk! Those things are supposed to be the best of the best!
How did you mount it? Do you have a pic? My friend mounted one int he same location in his neon but I can't figure out how to make it look good/work well.

I just used the suction cup WS mount that came with it. There is enough room in my mk3 that it JUST fits, I ran the supplied power wire under the headliner down the A pillar and used the fuse box connection that was supplied as well. Stuck the remote display on the top of the column and we're off to the races..

Ah. Won't work on my mk2 :(
