hmmm the alternator gets so much belt action that way... the normal 1.6TD setups don't have that much so after a while they tend to slip... mine is starting to slip again so i have to re-tighten it.. maybe i should consider some loctite???

i also know that manufacturers who put the alt behind there add a fresh air 'scoop' so that the alternator doesn't get heat soaked and cook itself.  any plans to keep it cooler? maybe a bit of a heat shield of some sort?  i would only imagine it being an issue while on a really hot summer day sitting in traffic.

im not too worried it is a GM unit and its not real tight to the motor and right in front are 2 10" electric fans, ya it will transfer rad heat to it but theres lots of room there, ill worry if it happens but oh well thats the first design

ya im not a big gm fan but same amount of wiring as the sami one, basically plugged in, the sami one wouldnt charge enough with everything on even though the alt tested good, id be more scared of the Ford one ive seen them burn even while turned off

Yeah, but you can rebuild 10 GM ones for the price of 1 VW alt. :P
Welcome. I think I talked to you in some other forum as I had problems with my belt routed that way, but you had said yours had been fine. I ended up running a ribbed belt for the alt and an idler pulley to tighten the water pump.
