Title: connecting rod bolts

can anyone tell me where I can get connecting rod bolts for a 1985 turbo diesel MF engine?
I started to check around and can not find a listing for them..
have it for all gas jobs,but no listings for diesel?
NOW...is the rod bolts the same for a gas and diesel?
any help .thanks

they're not that bad from the dealer. ask for trade price, the worst they can say is no.

yes that is what I had to do...
I ordered them through vw ..it was like $5.72 each.
I was also told they were the same as the gas 1.8 bolts from a vw supplier.
but of course its best to go vw.

if you're planning on being inside your engine now and then, buy ARP bolts that are stronger and reuseable.

yes, I did check arp BOLTS AND THEY WERE $122.
too much in this rebuild...

They're a bit cheaper from summitracing.com. That's where I get all my ARP stuff.

You want sick, price a set of stock VW stretch bolts for a pre '94 1.9TD, $13CDN each and you get to throw them away again the next time. The ARP's are a bargain...

OK help out here. I'm under the impression that the diesel bolts are different then the gassers and it is the gassers that your supose to change not the diesels.  If that is the case then I need to change mine out when I pull the pistons out here this week.

Well, maybe I shouldn't have, but I reused a set in an MF code 1.6  I had apart last fall.  Put about 20,000 km on it since with no problems.

The only experience I have with stretch bolts are head bolts in an 855 block Cummins. Cummins sends a guage for the bolts with the rebuild kit. If the bolts are over the specified length, replace them. Why don't we have the same deal with the volks head bolts and rod bolts? If they're not stretched too much they should be fine.

Does the 1.5 have stretch bolts? The head bolts aren't stretch. So, do I need to replace the rod bolts? They'll be impossible to get here in Oz.
