So recently I replaced my injectors with newer rebuilt ones. One thing led to another and I had to put my old ones back in.
After getting them back in and starting the car, i hear this loud popping sound. It's rhythmical, and has something to do with the injector, obviously. The mechanic I brought it to said it was carbon buildup. It only happes while under load. If it's idling, or downshifting, its quiet.
When I accelerate, sounds really loud like metal hitting something. (It's not).
Any ideas what's going on?

Sounds to me like valves are hitting pistons.
Andrew
I thought about that, but, the only thing we did was change the injectors. I don't think that this would have coincidentally happened at the same time that my timing went off for some unknown reason. And if pistons were hitting injectors, the 600km's i just put on it probably would have decommissioned the motor.

dirty injector or may be pluged? take the apart and clean! it may help?

Bad injectors will make a good deal of noise, especially if they are clogged with something. Take a long screwdriver, hold the metal tip to the top of each injector, and the other end to your ear. You'll hear loud, high-pitched pinging on the bad ones. It may sound worse under load.
If all you did was play with the injectors, then the problem has to be in that realm. In theory, you may have dropped something into the engine when playing with the injectors, but I doubt it.

The guy who put the old ones back in cleaned them up a bit. I ahve some rebuilt injectors on the way.

Negative on the pop testing. But really, I expect to have the other set here in a week or two, and the car runs fine as it is.

it might just go away! mine did that at first and went away after a while! just drive it and see what it does?
thanks Duane

When you pulled the old ones were any of them heavily carboned at the nozzle ?? Did you get enough seat time with the new nozzles to know that the noise was not with the new ones installed ??

Yeah, 1 injector had some buildup as one of the glow plugs was not working. But, it also wasn't making that noise before they were pulled, and the new ones didn't make any noise either. It was only once I replaced the old ones that it started to make that noise.

FYI, this noise has since gone away.
