Title: Bought some 1.6TD stuff today. Need help with identification
Post by: 914turboford on December 31, 2007, 05:09:45 pm
I just bought an engine, couple of blocks, turbos, etc. Wondering if you(anyone) might be able to help me ID the items(year, good or bad, etc.). One block starts off CR the other two XFM. The two blocks with no pan have oil squirters, the more complete motor has the turbo oil cooler. Three turbos say Garrett, one KKK.   (http://i140.photobucket.com/albums/r12/914turboford/16TDParts001.jpg)

CR is a 1.6 NA motor. I believe it's pre-1986 but I'm sure someone else has better info. I would imagine the other two blocks are actually MF's, which are 1986-1992 1.6 TD's.

Pic 6 is a CR block. It's got the turbo oil cooler and a turbo exhaust manifold so maybe it was being run as a NA+turbo or whatever you call it. Might also explain why the crank is siezed. Both of the loose heads have two oil drains, so I guess they are both hydraulic. I plan to sell some of the stuff but I have a pretty nice 1.6TD motor that I'd like to keep some extra parts for. Which is better, the KKK or T3? Are those hydraulic heads turbo or NA or is there a difference?

yep people will do silly things like set up a N/A and expect it to last like a TD!
both them heads are prolly TD heads the only thing i hear is the valves are sodium lined? and improved materials in the casting? but that all been contraversial?
i've read people like the T3 opposed to k24 but i could not tell you i only have a k24
i'd be interested in either TD hydro block ? do you know if thier good? was thier testing done that you know of? i'd hate to get one and it's shot from a crack in it?
I plan on boring it out for o.s. pistons! so not so conserned about the rust in the cylinders?
well send me a P.M. we will work out some details?
thanks Duane
