Title: Mk2 Intercooler Install pics
Post by: KTZed on December 31, 2007, 04:31:27 pm
IC from a Nissan Silvia SR20DET
2" Aluminum tube from scrap yard
Fuel filler hose from random ford truck gas tanks
Total cost was about $75  :D
Had to make new lower rad mounts and trim the rad support in a couple places so I could move the rad right over to the pass side.
And BTW its a rad from a non AC gasser I believe, same width as the fan shroud.
It cut an easy 200F off of the EGT's...that means its time for more fuel

A photo is worth a million words, as they say. Thanks for the pics, this is very useful and I welcome the idea of using aluminum tubes. The problem is to locate an IC at a reasonable price. I had to pay about $200 for a brand new TDI IC.

SR20DET Intercooler should be fairly easy to find at least in western Canada. For those not familiar with the trend here lately, anything over 15 years old can be imported from other countries and since we're closest to japan here on vancouver island, there are about a million skylines, silvias, fairlady z, toyota landcuisers, mistu delicas, etc. etc. running around. Not to mention the number of people swapping SR20 engines into 240sx's (and upgrading their intercoolers).
Im not sure I totally recommend this IC however as it was kind of a pain to fit...if I had found one that was a little thinner and had inlet/outlet on the same side it would have been much easier to fit in front of the rad...at least with small bumpers.

Hmmm. Someone could make some fellow td/tdi nuts happy and a few quid on the side if they could track those funky i/c down and sell 'em....

a bit smaller but with similar piping would be the ford 1994-2001 diesel range from escorts and mondeos... probably cheaper tho as well...
