So how do you do it?Do you dip them,wash them,what is it .let me in on the seceret.Ive called some places about dipping in the hottank,and its not cheap.$50.00 a pop.So was just wondering if you could post your technique.

I use a product called "Elbow Grease", bulk quantities. :wink:

I actully use this product after I do all the grinding, sanding, wire brushing and angle grinder with brass wheel on...wear safty goggles!~
then its prepped I rub light grade sand paper by hand till its a uniform surface, Then with rubber gloves I apply (not this exact product but i didnt see it on duplicolour's site

you need to remove all un wanted dirt as paint will just flake off
Ive been painting houses,metal work and industrial for the last 10 years and in my personal experiences ive come to trust a product like above....
Im sure its the same stuff, I just get it in bulk instead how they have it there.... but dupli colours expensive sometimes...
There discription is: A handy, disposable wipe that prepares surfaces to be repaired or painted. Removes grease, wax and solvents that prevent paint from forming a lasting bond. Use it on bare metal, OEM surfaces, aluminum, plastic and fiberglass. Wipe measures 8’ x 10”.
which should give you an idea of what its going to take to get a nice shiny coat of paint on anything.....anywhere!

What model and year's those valve covers coming on? I was told it has something to do with G-60's or....
thanks for making me want to go practice to touch up on my paint skills... but I suppose if I never painted anything like that in 10 years im a lostcoz

yes,that truly is beauitful.i dgrease brush,pressure wash if i can then buff on a wheel or with wire brush.Im about to do my transmission,and i wanted to see if there were any good hints,Do you guys think it would be durable to paint the tranny?Im almost feeling the raw aluminum! :P But i susspose that i could get away with a silver paint,but i also could polish it.i dont know .It seems the paint will not stand the test of time.

get a sand blasting cabinet from princess auto and go nuts. thats the quickest and easiest way to clean up dirty old parts. makes aluminum shiny too

10X... they go on sale all the time, and can handle just about anything this side of a tranny... in fact you could use the gun to do a tranny. Perfect for IP pumps, brake calipers, suspension parts.... and the silica sand is cheap too.
'Course, now I need a bigger compressor.... ;-)

Yah but im weary of putting things like injection pumps in the blaster.We have one ,imm afraid some sand will get left behind and get in a fuel line or oil,or something,it just scares me.

thats why you only blast the pump when it is all sealed up. best idea is to just leave some hose connected and seal it all up. then blast it all up, then you can open the pump and re-seal it etc.

Yes, that's a G60 valve cover. I got it from this site, I believe. It was painted red at the time and I stripped and polished it before powdercoat.

You dont paint intrikat places like on the injection pump without practice and hours of prep.
That idea about the sandblasting kit is great, I was at P.auto yesterday and looking at those... although my compressors a piece..
thanks for the mention on the G-60 cover. I think those look twice is nice as the stock 1.6 ones....just IMO

The G60 cover is cast aluminum. Be sure to convert to the new-style rubber gasket and studs when installing.

Now ive already got my pump apart to reseal.Im also upping to a 10mm pump,im shimming the gov spring,and turning up contol cone.So after all this will it be safe in there ,or will that ruin the new seals?here it is,well thats the lda im using.I decided it would be easier to convert my na pump instead of using the peugot.Its got a two hole belt side instead of a three.It wouldnt of been that hard ,but i also took in to factor that the vw pump was alot cleanerhttp://i249.photobucket.com/albums/gg206/2253benjamin/volkswagendiesel055.jpg
