Title: mk2 manifold clips
Post by: fillmore on March 22, 2005, 06:08:09 pm
hey guys, just wondering how to get the spring clamps that are shaped like C's back on my exsaust/ manifold. ive heard that they are hard to get back on unless you have the tool that the dealers use. has anyone ever ran into this problem before? is there a way to get them back on?

Get a 2" U bolt type exhaust clamp. Remove the nuts and pull the "saddle" piece off. thread the nuts all the way down the clamp. Put the "saddle" piece back on upside down (curved part facing outward). Insert this in the spring clamp and "loosen" the nuts on the U-bolt (one or two turns one each side, alternating back and forth) to press the spring clip out. Slip the clamp over the manifold/downpipe joint. Then "tighten" the u-bolt nuts to release the tension and allow the spring clamp to do it's job.

Just an illustration to back up what Racer_X said (not my photo, by the way).  Works just fine.  I did this about a month ago...
