Title: August 1986?

What happened in August 1986?  I want to order a upgrade radio for my 86 jetta from crutchfield.com and they want to know if it was made before august in 1986 or after to properly fit the car.  Is this their method of determining the origin?  Anybody know something about this?  My bentley tells me when it was made by the year, but not the month breakdown.  Thanks.

i think just the engine code changed as vw switched to hydraulic lifters?  maybe thats what they're talking about???

A little more investigation provided a date on the door post sticker of 2/86, and so I'll use that for ordering a radio.  I hope the solid vs hydraulic lifter is not a factor in the radio selection. . .
