I understand there are at least 3 different turbos that came stock. Garret, K14, K24
What model name is the Garrett turbo? Will there be a plate somewhere on the turbo or some markings indicating which it is? I seem to think mine is the Garrett turbo and I have not been able to source a rebuild kit for it.
"31409 24" is all I can see stamped on it. Its a 1986 Jetta with, what I understand, the original engine and turbo. There is significant amounts of oil on the turbo, so I assume it needs to be rebuilt at least partially.
I don't really want to remove it just yet as I need the car to get around, but I will one of these days when I have time off.

an 86 jetta will have the garrett T3. especially if its a Canadian car
edit: i was pretty tired. if the turbo says garrett its a T3 and if its says KKK its a K24. most people say the T3 is slightly better.

Would that kit work for rebuilding a Garrett T3?
