Title: 1990 VW Diesel Golf Steering problem
Post by: koppernicus on December 18, 2007, 03:49:56 pm
After driving for about 20 or 30 minutes, my steering wheel starts jerking left and right. The car doesn't turn, but the steering wheel makes small jerks in both directions.

Also I hear a thumping sound (intermittently) coming from under the car; as far forward as the driver's side wheel-well and as far back as right under the driver side seat.

Any suggestions as to what this might be? where should I look?

Also, do any of you have a 'choke' in your car? Mine's just below my steering wheel and to the left.... I pull it out every time I start the car, but once I'm rolling, I put it back in.

Problem is, it rattles like crazy. Any ideas on how to silence this?

And one more thing, I need to AirCare the car soon, are there any tricks to getting the car to run cleaner than usual just to pass the test? thanks for all your help guys!
