Post by: mtnbob on December 15, 2007, 09:38:53 am
Motorcraft 15w40 diesel oil ok? It says good to 20 degrees F and it rarely gets that low here in south carolina. Anyone ever use it. I cost $10 for 5qts

no experience with it, but it should be fine considering you aren't putting it into a turbo motor.  i personally would always spend the extra money for synthetic though.. that stuff goes a long long way :)

I'm sure you'll hear both sides (switch now/switch later). Just go with what makes you feel comfortable? Up here, synth is required in the winter if longevity of the engine is a concern (nothin' like "square pistons" when it's -20 outside with a cold start on dino oil in the crankcase  )

Cheers,
Andy

my guess is that the engine might seat faster while running thick dino in the winter.   either way i would want to use an oil pan heater for really cold days though... at least try and put 5000km and changing rpm's helps too (while driving)
