First things first. I´d like to convert my Scirocco to automatic, currently I´m using 02A tranny.
I made 02A mountings to match Passat ones. So ´88-´96 Passat automatic (01M?) would be bolt on, right? Or is there big differences in drive shafts etc? Well the mounting itself is not a big deal for me, I´ll make it fit
But there is a couple bigger issues... I see from Etka, that there is ecu for transmission :( What it needs to know? Engine speed? Throttle position? What else? Is there a possibility to convert it fully mechanic?
The second thing: Power handling... At vortex, i saw that 01M would handle 300 ft/lbs before issues arise. True or false? It is just enough to me, for now

Bump
Is there any fully mechanical overdrive automatics available?

I wonder if you could use a newer auto out of a mk3.
Would bolt up and it has a separate ECM. would need a TPS probably.

hmmm could probably do without the TPS. i've wondered if the tranny has a sensor for pressure. that should allow the ecm to be controlled by pressures and shift points from RPM. any electronics guru's??? RedRotors could probably make something work

yes, I belive they have a pressure sensor in them. If you use a MK 3 ECU on a Mk 2 transmission they will not work, the mk 3 uses a different harnes. '
If you do get an auto make sure to freshen it up, they are notorious for burning up the discs and converters, as well as the valve body in the pan, Because they were designed without a trans fluid filter.

I don't really want to ask why, but do you really need to have a slush box.
VW never had the best in auto trannys. Unless somebody has a beef up kit to be able to handle higher loads [i.e. more reliable] i would avoid unless absoultely necessary. Maybe things have changed and or you know somebody who can rebuild them cheap???

Stay away from the passat autobox. Valve body failures very common. Stick to a mk2 autobox.

I´ve decided to stick with stickshift. I don´t want any ecus to my car and need od for cruising too.

I thought b3 passats used the 096?
I have an 096 slushbox in my b3 wagon. Today, leaving a parking lot, it dropped out of 1st gear three times.
