How much of a drop in compression would i see if i put a two hole head gastket in the place of a one hole headgasket? The difference is only .04 mm but what does that equate to in drop in compression? Is the difference so little that i wont even notice it on cold starts? anyone done this before?

I really doubt you'd notice anything at all.

if it got really cold you might notice it a little. otherwise you won't notice it at all above 0 deg C unless you have bad compression.

but this won't really help those subzero cold starts... great for a summer hot rod though :twisted:

it doesnt get that cold here though....is it comparable to the compression loss that results from using the 1.9 head on the 1.6 block

Up here in the great white north we see temps as low as -30 deg c , my application is on a 1.9 aaz the old gasket after 300 km use :roll: here are some pics of my burnt one hole headgasket. :x

Are 1 holes just not available? You could always get the block skimmed a little for the 2 hole.

Auto-camping only has 2 hole victor rienz in stock and 1 hole elna head gasket. I've never heard of elna, are they a reputable manufacturer? I wanted to use a 2 hole gasket thinking that it might eliminate haed gasket failure under high boost. Is thinking correct?

it might not eliminate hg failures, but it will surely reduce the possibility of them occuring.
the only reason these motors have such high compression is for cold starts. you could probably get away with 300 psi compression or maybe even a bit lower if the car was started at full operating temperature.
it has been stated before in some threads that using a thicker hg to decrease compression isn't a wise idea as it changes something to do with injector spray pattern in the piston reliefs or something like that... i have a huge headache otherwise i'd remember.
