what is involved in a rebuild. im planning on doing the head and rings but im not sure on anything else....im going to be rebuilding it with my dad or uncle. so unexperience is not an issue on their end. whattl happen is i'll be doing the work but they will be double/tripple checking it...can i some how make the na engine turbo-able or some way to make the car go a little better up hills. right now i cant hardly hold it in 5th gear going up some grades that are no problem for my ghia and its got 40hp engine with only slight upgrades

Start with a compression test. It easily could be the injection pump that needs to be rebuilt (and or injectors) and not the engine

cheap compression testers can be found on ebay.  use search words: vw diesel compression tester or a combination.  just make sure its compatible with vw.

www.dieselvw.com sells injectors for turbo motors... they have a higher breaking pressure than NA injectors but the price is unbelievable.

getting the injectors out is a whole other story.  spray them with some penetrant a few times a day.  before and after trips helps a lot.

Anyone have any experience with www.dieselvw.com ?  His prices just seem too good to be true.  :?

Same as e-miata.com, injection pump.com, TDI-parts.com, volkswaparts.com....... I have only bought injection pump tools from him.

To be honest, I am probably buying my TDI pistons from them, though I'm going to see if I can get them without the rings. Cheap pistons might be one thing, but cheap rings are another.
