Title: Starter bits
Post by: addautomotive on November 27, 2007, 05:27:40 am
I have a box 'o starters that have bad feed wires, bad solenoids or bad brushes.

I'd like to take my 4 junk starters and make a couple good ones. Where can a fellah get a brush kit, or a solenoid?

Here in Fredericton I get mine from CMAC or Piercy's so I imagine and starter/ alternator repair place should have them. Piercy's spot welded my brushes on and assembled my starter for $30 a few years ago (including the price of a new tracking gear I bought from him).

Your local auto electric repair place will be able to get you the brushes as well as the cabling needed to run into the starter. I have found that the cabling will fail open due to corrosion of the fine copper wire braid under the sheath. It is a cheap fix for a starter motor that has just quit.
