Title: Smoke from oil cap
Post by: hamradio on November 13, 2007, 05:39:36 pm
Ok,
On my 1.6na, after running a few secs and shutting down, a little smoke comes out when the oil cap is removed.  I'm not real concerned about this.  I removed the oil cap, while it was idling for about 30 secs previous to that and a cold start, and a fair bit of smoke was coming out.  Not billowing or anything, but a good bit of smoke was coming out.  I don't think my car really uses any oil (previous to the head gasket leaking), and it has never runaway.  How bad is this?

Are you talking about the smoke that comes out of the oil cap opening when the engine is off after its been running, or is this something different?  When I shut my car off to add oil a lot of "smoke" comes out of the oil cap opening.

same here... considering the heat produced by internal combustion engines, and the temp difference from ambient air, I'm not surprised.
