Title: alt. wiring? swapping aaz from a3 into an a2

Just curious of the wiring issues when swapping the a3 aaz engine into my a2 eco. It doesn't look like a plug and play sort of thing. Is there anything unusual I will need to do? any help is welcome. The new engine has the serp setup and a new 90 amp alt. thanks

It's not quite plug and play but all the wires are the same color. Just match them up and do some splicing. Make sure it's a good solid splice or you'll have charging problems.

The wires for the pump may or may not be needed depending on the pump. You need the stop solenoid though

cool, thanks for your help. A friend of mine stopped by yesterday and told almost the same thing. I just get nervous when it comes to electrical issues. It has never been my strong suit. thanks again.

The A3s have a big black electrical plug that connects all of the engine wiring to the engine harness.... the A2s just run the wires straight to the various bits.  So that's why it's not plug-and-play.

Having said that, there's very little difference in the requirements... 12V to the fuel solenoid, a couple of wires to the two oil pressure senders and a couple of temp senders (they have a different connector on the A3 as well) and some differences in the physical connector at the alternator.

You'll notice some extra electrical bits on the IP:  a microswitch on the throttle and an extra solinoid on the front of the pump.  The microswitch can be eliminated and a wire run between the extra solenoid and the fuel solenoid.

As an aside, there's a bit of extra vacuum stuff on an AAZ engine as well... most have an EGR system with some vacuum hoses, and if the engine had air conditioning there's a vacuum actuator on the IP for fast idle.  Most people delete the EGR stuff (sorry Al Gore) and either ignore or plumb in the fast idle vacuum thru the original electric actuator from the AAZ donor.

yea make sure to solder the connections (and heat shrink).  they will be good for life :)

and al gore is right that carbon dioxide levels are way higher than they were, but still.. it only accounts for about 5% MAX of the climate changes.  NASA is reporting that many other planets are experiencing a 'warming' so maybe we should change it from Global warming to Universal warming?  or does that just sound corny?  :lol:  maybe mars should implement some EGR...  the only reason i am interested in EGR is because it does help warm the car (if equipped with an EGR cooler that uses coolant).  but probably more problematic than it is worth.

sorry for the off topic, but al gore pisses me off.  total hypocrite.
