Title: TDI aircraft engine...
Post by: the4ork on November 05, 2007, 04:47:55 pm
im building an home build experimental airplane... i need an engine between 250-300lbs including turbo/exhaust/intercooler/oil ect...

i have a 1.6 in my garage i'd say the complete engine weighs in at about 225lbs? just a guess...

anywho... wondering what would be the best setup... looking to make the most hp between 2500-3500 RPM... so a bigger displacement will probably help the most...

i hear there are some pretty bad euro motors out there, with twin cams and 4valve per cyl but i dont know anything about them...

i'd like to make around 175hp on no more than 20psi of boost @3k rpm... i dont know if this is possible or not. it would be quite a challenge on a 1.6td thats for sure...

just looking for info right now, kind of just thinking about the idea...

Aircraft engines are made to run at full power for long amounts of time.

I doubt a car engine would last long constantly running at 2.5x it's stock output.
