Title: Stock TD1.6 'smokes' souped Civic.
Post by: Jettadoor on November 02, 2007, 10:48:17 am
I could never hope to outrun any of the plethora of massaged Civics and suchlike that abound in my neck of the woods. I'm not really bothered about trying!

However, as I was on the ramp to get onto the highway the other day a Civic comes up behind me, flashing lights and all.

Now I'm usually embarrassed when I set off from a stop light and leave those behind me reaching for the fog light switch, but as this twit behind me was getting more and more excited, I suddenly realized what a powerful weapon I had under my foot.

I shifted from 3rd. to 5th. at 70kph and floored the pedal    Since the highway is one lane traffic for a mile or so after the ramp (road works), there wasn't a whole lot he could do about it

Well he certainly dropped back a couple of lengths!

It's the first and probably the last time I'll ever get to out-drag one of those things from 70 in 5th.  :D

Ah heck... I do that when doing 110 on the highway (already passing others at a decent rate). My dad was with me one night, and some twit in a new Honda minivan was tailing me with driving lights on, flashing the brights. So my dad suggested slowly easing off the gas, but I told him to turn around see why he should ditch his mk3 Jetta gasser and go diesel. Left it in 5th and hammered the throttle... that minivan backed off pretty quick. I can't wait to add the boost pin AND play around with the turbo.

lol get an EGT gauge man!!!  i wouldn't smoke for more than 3-4 seconds as egt's climb like mad in 5th gear!!!  when i first got my car i was able to really lay down some serious smoke on people but it burns the oil and egt's can ruin the engine so i started smoking conservatively.  i like smoking tailgaters in the summer... their a/c can only filter out so much of the carbon soot before they need replacing

It is extremely fun smoking rich dudes in their convertible bimmers when they tail you through a school zone.  Its almost an addiction.  It used to take alot to get me to lay down a cloud of soot, but now I'll do it at the drop of a hat.

Don't worry... I only do it in short spurts, it's usually enough to get people to back off. EGT is on next summer's list, though.

My car wont smoke at all.  I miss the days of my NA Golf when I used to blow massive clouds at will.  I need to turn my fueling up I think
