Title: Kobenschmidt AAZ, ALH, AHU Heads Price jump, order now!
Post by: subsonic on October 30, 2007, 08:31:55 pm
I just talked to the guy I am buying my new AAZ head off of.  Some of you may be familier with him.  It is Bleached Bora (Aaron) from the TDI Club.

The head that I was buying was mismarked.  It was a 1.9NA head.  He called to let me know.

He has a supplier who is getting in a crate of new parts.  It is supposed to contain a number of new, complete Kolbenschmidt 1.9TD AAZ heads.

I asked him what he could work out for a group buy price on these heads.
Bleached Bora said that  he should be able to sell these at a group buy price of between $600-700 dollars U.S, shipped, if he gets 4 buyers.

I am one.

I should have a bit firmer price in a day or so.  When I have a solid price I will post it.

I think that price range for a new shipped head is pretty darn good.

Anyone else here interested in going in on this?

Jim

I am going to pass this site info on to him.  He was interested in becoming a vendor here.

I overheated my 1.6 NA Caddy without a temp gauge working.  Now THAT was a smokin' head!  Literally

I would be definitely in.  I have my motor in pieces right now.  Let me know what you find out.  Funny, I contacted him a few weeks ago and he said he couldn't get them - things must have changed.  I also realize my shipping would be more to Canada.

Now lets see, intake & downpipe from Dave, K24 Turbo, an intercooler, a Giles pump, and my 32,000 km TDI CTN tranny and I should be good to go!

Let me Know - I am two(2)

Just got back from hunting, I sent Bleached Bora an e-mail about the group buy.  I will post the answers as soon as I get them.  He should be registering as a vendor soon.

Questions I asked:

Firm price yet between 6-700 shipped.

Valve stem Dia.

Asked if these are German imports, or Mexican, produced under Kolbenschmidt licence/guidence.

How he will handle shipping to Canada.

Yep.

When I added up all the costs for rebuilding my AAZ head with all new components, plus machine work and shipping, I was  at , if not over this cost.

Are you SURE they are complete? I have yet to see complete heads brand new available from anyone but if they are coming from Europe anything is possible. The price is fair, nothing smoking hot though, rebuilt cores a only a few hundred nowadays, however they require a core return. New bare heads are out there in the $500 range, but if your starting from scratch you do need a complete head. Valves, lifters, cups nothing is expensive anymore, but it adds up if you have to build one. Any word on TDI heads?

In Orem huh?

I drive right by there at least twice a day, maybe I'll stop in and say hi.

BTW, I know we are talking heads here but I have a question about your
Sprint 520 injectors.
What's the application for these? TDI correct?

That is correct, they are only for the TDI (non PD) cars. I don't know what you drive, but the IDI nozzles I have were originally from 1.6 GTD in Europe. They are a nice upgrade at $125/set.
Feel free to give me a call or stop by anytime you wish.

Two heads arrived at Passenger today :D

I must say I have been sent all sorts of different 1.9IDI castings over the last few years. These are the only good quality ones I have seen. I am very satisfied with these heads, few little things to clean up but I am stripping them down for some major porting right now. If all is well one of these heads will be running this weekend.

Good *** Bleached Bora

My wife gave me "the look" this morning--perhaps it was the heads still in the living room, or perhaps it was the 5th gear sets, ecodes, and brake upgrade kits that arrived from Germany yesterday...  :?

I forsee good buisness for both Dave and BB with these heads.  I think there will be a rise in the number of members who will now consider the Franken option much more viable.  No more spending months on end looking for a good head that is in need of a rebuild.
I am glad the group buy is working out.

Agreed. Word on the street around here is that there will be a franken motor on the street this weekend with a t3/t4 turbo, giles pump, fmic, intake manifold, 3" dp, etc...

Oh there will be a photo run, unfortunately it didn't get done or even really started this last weekend due to the fact I had to go into emergency surgery :x

Seeing as how I can't do much of the work myself now I guess I will take pictures and crap   I'm not supposed to lift more than 10 lbs for a month.

The car should still cometogether fairly soon however as I have no car right now, but I can't drive yet either soooo....

What is the build combo for a franken motor guy's?? 1.9 head on a 1.6 block........... :?
I was told by TDIRacing this week, that Dave (PP) can make more power with the IDI's, than can be made with the TDI's.  :o  Man are my ears pointed. I want to hear much more. ( I have a project in mind !!)

which combination ( considering valve/cylinder wall clearance/compression ratio/etc ) is a consideration for the 1.6L block?

Do a search for Franken, you will gets lots of info.  Basic run down is it is a direct bolt on if you have a hydro block.  If you have the mech block you will need to block off one passage.

Benefits include larger valves, more free flowing designed ports, and a reduction in compression ratio.  If you install 1.9TD injectors you will get the additional benefit of "dual stage" injection.  Combine this with the metal head gasket and you will have a setup that should allow you to run more fuel at greater boost.  This means more power.
Add the 3" Down pipe for 300 bucks, Mod your IP following the directions in the FAQ section and away you go.
Of course an intercooler will help greatly as would a IP rebuilt by Giles or Tintin.
Hope this helps.  Jim

There are a few members who are pushing big HP out of the IDI.
635Racer
Malone
Andy2

Over in Europe we have members running high HP as well,  I just have'nt had my coffee yet and am pulling a brain cramp as to the names.

BB,
Are you finding more of a market for the AAZ heads now that the 1.6/1.9 Franken engine combination  info is out there?

Well i looks like it comes down to pistons, and it sound like some one is working on them.

I guess the question i will have to pose, obviousely not in this form, is the potential power difference.

Thanks for the Info.

cool,,sounds like ill be scraping up the funds here.....

oh btw,my buddy showed me the nov 07 issue of eurotuner, the waterfest coverage
if anybody has it,look in the drag racing section, and see the team hillfolk rabbit
they oopsied and said it runs 13's,well this year i hope it should(it was running mid 14's at 99mph consistant)
its recieving all lexan windows(except windshield)

the front doors are cut out+gutted(no regulators or inner sheet metal),i left a couple of tabs to mount the door panels if i want
the right window will be fixed, the drivers side will be movable like the old porsches with the leather strap to close the window
the side windows will be flush mount with  the body, and barely be able to see the seam between the glass+body
itll be extra work, but be better aerowise(thanks x-jets.com for the fab work)
i want to keep it "street legal' but max weight removal,no more heater box!!!
one of the guys at the airport that builds planes gets these little 12 volt heaters(300 watts) with a small waffle fan, should be good enough for a window defroster
hoping to get around 100 to 150 pounds of junk out of it!!
thanks for the fast reply!!!!!

Dr. Diesel, yours is arriving tomorrow, goes out Priority mail. I don't know why Google checkout is hating on my brotha's up north, but I can send out manual invoices just fine. My vendor is having issues keeping these in stock, but I have another one for Limey on the way that should go out Mondayish.
My vendor is no longer giving me a deal on these, so the price will soon go up to $795, I'll keep it down as long as I can though. With graduation coming soon I'm just able to keep up with my emails and phone calls, so you won't find me online much, but I still pop in when I can. Thanks guys!  I thought I'd post the price again, last time it was posted was page 1.
I'm starting the 1.7TD rebuild and am thinking the compression might be too high with a 1.6 TD head.

It's actually $695+shipping (~$20 US, $40 Canada). I had them originally for $795, lowered the price for the group buy, but my vendor won't allow me to get them at my old price anymore. I just ordered another three a couple weeks ago and I'm paying $50/ea more for them, but the price only went up $40. Fair trade IMHO :).

http://www.boraparts.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=45

Canadian orders please contact me for payment, Google doesn't like it when you try to order on the site, but when I send you an invoice it works just fine. To date I've sold about 3 in the US and 5 to Canada with two currently in stock.
