Title: Don't overtighten belt or this happens!
Post by: rallydiesel on October 30, 2007, 04:51:52 pm
This pump had worn bushings from the previous owner overtightening the timing belt. This is the result:

The bore of the pump is worn into by the roller carrier.

Wow I never thought about that. I guess an overtightened belt would have the ability to wear the inside of the pump too, not just the bushings. Thanks for the picture!

A belt that is too tight can also break sooner than normal!!!!!

I'd guess that only happens once the bushing is worn past it's limit, the bushings intended purpose is probably to prevent exactly that from happening.
