Title: Cylinder Walls had some grooves Mech honed out Is that ok??
Post by: mtnbob on October 30, 2007, 12:34:06 pm
Ok mechanic is deep into my engine, since i was getting blowby. Said that there were marks in the cylinder walls on two of the cylinders walls. not deep grooves but you could see them. He honed all of them out and said that i can either run it with new rings or bore it out and put in oversize pistons and rings. Not sure which way to go. I also remember hearing about rings on here that were supposed to be more expensive but sealed better. Any suggestions??

The standard rings that he ordered will be there tommorrow so I have a day to make a decision. I plan to keep the car so I'm not trying to patch it up, but my budget is getting tight on this car too.

I wonder if they make a big enough sleeve to run the 1.7 pistons?  Probably end up being a wet sleeve.

I like this line from his site about rebuilt IPs.
"The pic is only a sample pic. I normally don’t clean the outside of my pumps."
That is sure a confidence builder about the build quality.

lol, I thought that too. I wouldn't buy a rebuilt pump from him but I've bought many parts and his prices are great.

He's even supposed to be putting together 1.6M-TDI kits for people that want the efficiency and power of a TDI but have a 1.6.  Hrmm...
