Title: Which is the best type of spring compressor?
Post by: trent77 on October 24, 2007, 03:11:29 pm
When looking for a spring compressor for my A2, I've noticed that you can get the "clamshell" style or the type that is 2 separate pieces. Which do you prefer? And where is a good place to get one? thanks for the help.

The clam shell type. The other ones are very dangerous. I have done over 100 stuts with a snapon clamshell type.

don't cheap out. i was using one of those double ones and didn't notice that one of the arms had cracked. of course like an idiot when i was turning the bearing nut and it noticed that it was hard to turn, i looked down the proverbial gunbarrel to see what was happening when SNAP the strut bearing shot into my face. one stud [it was a rabbit] went through my lower lip and the other glanced off my glasses! i still have the scar 27 years later.

you just ruined my confidence of going out to use my spring compressor tool.....

Everytime I have to use it I dread the outcome as it's one of those cheep princess auto ones!

I think the tire rents out tools. I'm pretty sure they may have a safer one to use. BTW where is west G?
