Title: Fuel Line Question
Post by: silvertdi on October 22, 2007, 07:47:29 pm
My ball joints were going bad, so I took the time to order some new control arms, bushings, ball joints, GTI swaybar, etc. I just got it all together and took it for a spin. WOW, what an improvement. I'm not sure what made the biggest difference, but she feels good. During the instalation, I had to move the brake lines and fuel lines. Brake lines were no big deal. Moved them about a half inch. The fuel lines, though, were a PITA. It looks OK, but the fuel lines rub on the sway bar. I put some silicone hose on the swaybar to prevent abrasion, but I was wondering if anyone has swithed the metal lines out with plastic lines. Like the one that goes from the fuel filter to the IP. Anybody do this?

While I don't have a VW car, I do have an AAZ. My truck has plastic and rubber for fuel lines. No problems after 1 year as a Diesel.

I'm thinking about going that route.  The only issue may be road debris severing the lines.

I'm guessing you have a mk1?
All mk2 diesels have a hard plastic fuel line

Yep, MK1.  I'm gonna swing by a truck stop and see if they have diesel specific hard plastic lines.  Should be an easy mod...just messy.
