Title: Woo Hoo - Just scored myself another GTD lump inc turbo.
Post by: regcheeseman on October 17, 2007, 03:58:12 am
Just bought another GTD engine, matey didn't know what he was selling.

Owned by an old geezer, rebuilt engine and replaced turbo 30,000 miles ago

£150

Local scrappy wanted £195+vat for a lump minus pump and turbo!

Fit EGT, gov mod, wind up fuelling...

Any other jobs to do before fitting it?

Why? I've not heard this before, would it work on a 1.6?

I have a 1.9 head here too - is that any use?

Mikkijayne,

It's gonna be tuned and swapped for the standard GTD I've already fitted in my caddy.

The seller showed me the bill for the rebuild - £1550!

He has also got a standard TD 1.6 there for sale as well, it's an unknown quantity which he bought for a T4 thinking it was a 1.9! He said he paid £200 for it but offered it for £50.
He was thinking of giving it a thourough check over and punting it on ebay - maybe worth giving him a call? Don't tell him I said £50 though.

Yes the 1.9 TD headgasket is stronger than the 1.6 so seals better and is stronger under pressure from a tuned engine.

the only problem is that the 1.9 hg thickness is a little different than a 1.6.  a 2 notch 1.9 hg is a little bit too thin for a 1.6 that requires a 3 notch, etc.  you will notice ever so slightly worse cold starts, but its barely noticeable.  i've run 15-20 psi boost on the 1.9 hg and its held up so far!

Surely a thinner gasket increases compression which improves starting?
