Title: WTB: MK II "Turbo Diesel" script steering wheel in
Post by: Quantum TD on October 16, 2007, 10:51:21 pm
I know, it's probably a long shot. But I figured they sold more MK II Turbo diesel in Canada than in the US. So maybe our friends on the other side of the border might help a brother out.

I'm looking for the 4-button steering wheel center insert from an early MK II Jetta/Golf with the "Turbo Diesel" script written on it.

Sorry I don't have a pic of it, but maybe someone can chime in with one.

I'm not in desperate need of one, but would love to have one.

Try this guy..

ebay Item# 290164070132 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290164070132)

He had it on ebay two weeks ago and pulled 12 hours before it ended, I am guessing because the bidding was only up to $35.00

He probably wants a mint for it, throw money at him.

Yeah, I saw that auction and was watching it. I also noticed that he ended the auction early. I'm sure it's sold. Thanks for the link, so now people know what I'm looking for.

So, anyone got one???

It might be sold, some nut probably offered him $250 for it.

If you watch ebay.de they comeup every so often, even with world wide shipping.

Dude..Ive been looking for one for about a year now. I have a few posts on here and one on the Vortex. Ive sent questions to all kinds of yards all over the US and Europe. If I could get my hands on one Id make a mold.

I will probably go with an aftermarket smaller wheel if I cant find one. The only way I will stay with a stock wheel is with one.

You better get in line.
Oh...and just so you know...the end is waaaaaaaaaaaaaay back there in another county.

i will keep my eyes out for you guys. if you ever see the elusive 'GTD' insert, please snap a pic at least i'd like to confirm that one.

as far as switching to a different smaller-diameter steering wheel: i have the normal 'GTI' wheel in my car, one of 3 non-leather ones i've used. i've also used the leather wrapped GTI ones, as well as corrado, passat, etc.

to be honest, i like the FEEL of the non-leather normal rabbit GTI wheel better than any of the others i've tried. i wouldn't want to go to a smaller diameter or thicker hand gripped wheel. of course, this is without power steering. not that its hard to turn with a smaller wheel, but i prefer the feel of the car with the larger diameter wheel. my 2 cents.

I will only have P/s. I wont run without it. I plan on doing alot of autox and open track and running without it is out of the question. I have a 12" on my cherokee because the stock wheel make me feel like I was driving a sailing ship.
