Title: what are this sensor for?
Post by: carrizog60 on October 14, 2007, 04:29:04 am
i know the first one is for temp. gauge on dash but what about the other 2?
one is problably for glow plug relay but wich one?
asking because my glow plug light wasnt working and after switched wires now it works...
blue/white wire is now on the sensor located on the hose that goes to heater core.
because the engine was opened i dont know if this is the right location...

The one on the back of the cylinderhead is oil pressure, the two on the ports are coolant temperature and the wires are interchangable.

thank you.
do you know if the wires are in the correct place?
this way the glow plugs work...

Hi
Does your temp gauge work?
Those two senders are for the glow plugs and the temp gauge.
I don't think it matters which is where. The senders work as a ground when the coolant closes the circuit and they are quite cheap to replace.

yes it works.

it is conected to the sensor in front of the engine(first pic)

the doubt was on pic number 2 and what sensor were those...
so,correct me if i am wrong, upper sensor is oil pressure and lower sensor is for glow plug relay right?and the wires are conected in the right spot?

picture number 2 is of the oil pressure sensor on the side of the head. I think if you unplug it when the car is running the low oil pressure light/buzzer will come on.

While the wires may be interchangable and they are both the same sensor, would you not be getting different readings depending on what sensor you are plugged into?

I would think the sensor on the side of the block would read cooler than the one on the back of the block (below the oil pressure switch) as you would be reading the coolant temperature coming from the radiator rather than coming out the back of the head.

The temps between the two would not be significantly different since they are both in the coolant stream of the cylinder head, some vehicles have both of them located on one coolant port.  The sensor for the GP relay only comes into play when the car is started (only turns the GPs on when the signal is below a certain value).

The coolant from both flanges is leaving the head on it's journey to the waterpump.  On the end of the head it goes through the heater circuit.  The other circuit is to the top of the radiator.  The temp difference will be very slight if any.

This has me a little confused then...

Rather than hijack this thread any more I'll start a new one....

if it is same wiring loom/colours as a vanagon

blue/black is to the oil sender

blue/white is to coolant sender

the red/yellow in top pic is same aswell

if you take off the red/yellow and ground it to the block the auxilliary water pump should start :D
