Title: 96 B4 Passat TDI Turbo Question
Post by: rich brennick on October 06, 2007, 06:51:31 pm
Was actually looking through the FAQ section and found burn your money's VW turbocharger link;
http://www.turboservice.se/Volkswagen.pdf

My car has a K03 turbo which is not listed; that mean it was changed?
K03 good or bad? It seemed to pull pretty well before I pulled the drivetrain.

The B4/A3 cars with TDI used the K03 and GT15 wastegated turbos so chances are that the turbo you have is the orignal one and I'm not sure if there are any advantages or benifits to having one turbo over the other??

1Z 1996-early 1997 engines all had the Garrett GT15 turbo. The AHU got the KKK-K03. The K03s tend to last a bit longer than the Garretts--so if you have a 1Z with a K03 it has been changed before. I actually have hybrid turbos available, as well as a just released (yesterday) option which is very close to the Kerma VNT20 kit fit into a wastegated turbo for the A3/B4 crowd. It's not for the faint of heart!
