Tuesday AM. I see on Craigslist..
Volkswagen Jetta GL - $500
1992 Volkswagen Jetta GL white. Leaks Diesel. New tires. Needs a fuel injection pump.
I figure what the heck, I call it's still there so I go look. I pull up to see a fairly rough looking car, I pop the hood, didn't get it halfway up... my heart started racing.... It was an Eco, a 1991 but an Eco all the same.
The battery was dead, none the less I gave the guy a $100 deposit, I figure $500 is still a deal.
Today my brother and I dollied it home with his truck.
PICS!! (http://ziptar.com/eco_jetta/)
I still haven't gotten it running it cranks slow even with a 850CCA battery. the body is rough the inside is wet and stinks of mold. still I couldn't be happier. While I stand there in the driveway looking like :D  :o :P my wife looks at me like
Next week my buddy is bringing his 89 Carat down to me and my project will start, it was going to be a TDIm but, this'll do for now. I'll get the Eco running and check out the engine and then start swapping stuff over.
I have an AAZ pump that I got from Burn_your_Money a while back. I'll have to mod the boost pin thoug right?
So if I merge an 89 Carat and a 91 Eco does that make it a 90 Ecarat or Ecorat???

That looks great. Hell of a deal if you ask me.
The EPA is going to be pissed if they see those pictures of your driveway. :P

Took care of that, some simple green, laundry soap and a push broom, gave it a scrubbing and hosed it of.
Don't know that I'll run it much until I get the pump sorted.
As far as the EPA, leaks happen..

Yes, $500 you can't go wrong. My 91 Eco rocks. I had Giles do the pump and I opened up the exhaust to 2.5" and I'm getting 49mpg on average. Took it on a trip 3 hours north to Richmond last weekend cruising 80mph and got 42mpg.

Wow, I thought my ECO's pump leaked bad... that's amazing.
You're going to want to replace all the rad hoses. Autohaus AZ has great prices on them. Just get the 3 way hose from them. I tried to make one from some parts and a T, what a waste.
