Title: Compression Numbers: What to do?
Post by: CasualDays on September 26, 2007, 02:44:06 pm
From IP over:
400, 340, 300, 400

This is a 1.6td motor. Not sure of the engine code yet, haven't crawled around it enough to find the code.

Basically I get run on sitting at idle. Usually happens after about 30 seconds- 2minutes. There is oil in the second cylinder, and it looks like there is oil coming out of the breather tube on the top.

What kind of rebuild am I looking at?

How much is this gonna set me back?

Looks like a head gasket leaking between cylinders to me.

A leak-down test would reveal more information... but no matter what the head is coming off... might as well get it over with and see what's what !!!

My guess would be best case head gasket, more likely ring & bearing job, worst case new pistons+ boring etc. If you can do the work yourself less than a couple hundred to start lots more if pistons etc necessary. Fix everything while you are in there it will be cheaper in the long run. Good luck Dan
