hi there,
I'm a new member, but I have had diesels for years. I am looking at an eco-diesel in the morning and just want to know if they are a good choice or should I pass and go to a td or non turbo instead. If I get this car, is it a good candidate to change it over to a standard td or is that too much trouble?
Thanks for any help.

hi ha.
eco's can really really last miles and miles as they are soooo detuned but as libbi says swap out pump or as i did swap out pump head form a td pump it works just as well, otherwise they are the same build as an Sb engine (gtd engine Golf mk2) just not intercooled from factory.
i took one apart recently the had over 200k miles on the clock, internally i could not believe it but i wsa like a brand new engine. the head didnt have cracks between the valve seats or the precup chambers.
twas a nice surprise to find that.

You'd be better swapping the whole pump rather then just the top.

thank you so much for your input. I believe i will buy. he is asking 2300$ with a new factory head. I'll have to look for a steering rack though. It is leaking, any ideas where to get one?

Go to a yard and get a manual one, they are much better, and it increases fuel economy 8)

love my Eco. I had the head off when I upgraded the injection pump -- 127 K miles -- like new.
