Title: JK engine code?
Post by: Gearhead on September 10, 2007, 11:17:20 am
After removing a layer of paint and bending my neck, a mirror, and a flashlight in directions none of them should be bent, I came up with JK 1U 7U9M.  What are the properties of a JK engine?  I know it's not the original engine in this car, but it shows as a European 1.6.  What is the US engine equivalent?

Did your JK have squirters?  I thought I read somewhere that many of the Euro cars had squirters, turbo or not.  I will probably have the pan off in a few days.

I agree.  Why would they change the engine code just because of where it's sold?  I'm sure they do, but were there differences due to emissions?  Are Europeans more likely to run higher speeds for longer distances or vice versa?  What would be changed for those differences.    I wonder how my engine got to the US.

Hello chaps,

as far as im aware, all uk trubo'd diesel engines have the oil squirts, n/a don't for obvious reasons, never see a n/a with em or Td without. :o

I just pulled the pan of the JK engine in my Kubvan, and it does not have oil squirters.

i read somewhere...i think it was posted at VWcaddy.com that the alloys were different than the CR and CS engine and the JK is less prone to cracking.

The JY might be the turbo version (like the CY is to the CR engine).
